Blackbird XIII

It was evening all afternoon.
It was snowing.
And it was going to snow.
The blackbird sat
In the cedar limbs.

-Wallace Stevens, "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird"

I want to take a nap. But I won't. I will be too cold to get up from under the blanket. Too tired to get up. And I will want to eat when I get up. Which makes no sense. Plus, I may be cranky after a nap.

  1. oh, a Stevens fan, I see,
one must have a mind of winter
to regard the frost and the boughs
of the pine-trees crusted with snow

poetry is the supreme fiction, madame
pursuit of truth should keep us
    warm and bright

hmm, you’ve tempted me to drink some coffee but I won’t, I need to get some sleep tonight.
